Declining enrollments in JMC schools adversely affect the number of qualified graduates entering the workforce. The Chronicle hoped that a journalism scholarship program would help motivate local Filipino students to study and work in Hawaii’s media field.

Since its inception, the Chronicle’s scholarship program has provided financial assistance to students of Filipino heritage who majored in JMC at one of the four-year accredited universities in Hawaii.
