The first-ever Filipino Festival at Ewa Town Center on August 29 highlighted the flavors, culture and traditions of the Philippines.
Presented in collaboration with the Oahu Filipino Community Council (OFCC), this free mini fiesta drew a steady crowd on a sunny, Saturday afternoon.
Though the event was small, Calvin Bagaoisan, president of OFCC, observed that it was a good start to what he hopes would become an annual celebration in Ewa/Ewa Beach.
He said, “Cultural events like this are important because it brings together the community on the west side of Oahu and give more representation to us Filipinos, one of the largest ethnic groups in Hawaii.”
Lance Motogawa, event organizer and 97.1 FM radio DJ, introduced the Sinta Cultural Group to kick off the festival. The proud seniors sang Filipino folk songs and performed traditional dances in colorful Filipiniana fashion.
India Ching, Miss Oahu Filipina 2025, presented an energetic solo modern dance. Darlyn Dayoan, newly crowned Miss Hawaii Filipina 2026, was on hand to sign free photos and greet fans in person.
Members of the Moanalua High School Leo Club staffed the craft station where visitors decorated free pamaypay (woven fans).
Cae’s Smash & Grindz featured their signature smash burgers on ube brioche buns. The A&E Empanada food truck sold out of their popular empanadas.
Hawaii Federal Credit Union offered many free giveaways at their booth. Shoppers at Ewa Town Center were able to get free reusable festival bags and Philippines stickers and decals at the Filipino Festival.
