The Hawaii Department of Human Services (DHS) recently announced the Keiki Under 6 Food Support Program.
Just like what the name suggests, children under the age of 6 years old will receive SNAP benefits at any time since October 1, 2020.
The benefits are paid for each month the child received SNAP benefits from October 2020 through May 2021. Benefits are loaded to the family’s Kokua EBT account starting June 24, 2021.
There is no application needed for the Keiki Under 6 Food Support program. Eligible children are automatically enrolled in the program through the SNAP participation verification system by the DHS.
The benefits can be used to purchase SNAP-eligible food, such as groceries, frozen food items and snacks.
The amount of benefits will depend on where the child lives and the maximum amount of benefit will cover the period of October 2020 through May 2021.
A letter will be mailed to the family’s address informing the actual amount the child will receive.
Children residing in Hawaii Island, Lanai and Maui can receive a maximum amount of $1,144 while Oahu will receive a maximum of $1,002. Kauai and Molokai children will receive a maximum of $931.
