Filipino American Candidates Advancing to the General Election

By Jim Bea Sampaga

Prior to the Aug. 8 primary election, Hawaii Filipino Chronicle (HFC) featured 30 Filipino American candidates running for various positions in public office. More than 10 Fil-Am candidates advanced to the general election with some of them facing off with fellow Fil-Am candidate.

In City Council District 9, Will Espero and Augusto Tulba took the top two positions with 39.68% and 36.66% respectively. While in State House District 30, Sonny Ganaden and Tess Quilingking took the top two spots. Their names are on the general election ballot to determine the winner for the respective seats.

To echo HFC’s July 17 article, “exercising your right to vote by registering and learning more about the candidates are crucial in the upcoming [general] election.” Here’s a quick rundown of all the Fil-Am candidates you will see in your general election ballot and the positions they are running for.
