Hawaiʻi Walk for Health returns for year three with theme “Today’s Steps for Tomorrow’s Strength”

by Dr. Arcelita Imasa

The 3rd Annual Hawaiʻi Walk for Health returns on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. at Neal S. Blaisdell Park in ʻAiea, bringing together families, students, healthcare advocates, community organizations, workers, and civic leaders for what organizers expect to be the largest Walk for Health yet.

This year’s theme, “Today’s Steps for Tomorrow’s Strength,” reflects the belief that the actions we take today—whether caring for our physical and mental health, supporting our neighbors, advocating for our communities, or investing in the next generation—build a healthier and more resilient Hawaiʻi for tomorrow.

Now entering its third year, Hawaiʻi Walk for Health has evolved from a grassroots community walk into a growing movement centered on the idea that health extends far beyond exercise. Health is shaped by our economic security, our relationships, our workplaces, our environment, our mental well-being, and the strength of our communities.

As Hawaiʻi families continue to navigate rising costs of living, housing insecurity, workforce challenges, concerns about government accountability, and humanitarian crises affecting loved ones around the world, organizers hope this year’s event reminds participants that no one walks alone.

That is why we walk. We walk when words aren’t enough. We walk when we are frustrated, concerned, or searching for solutions. We walk to support our workers, our immigrants, our kūpuna, our youth, and our neighbors. We walk to care for our minds, our bodies, and our spirits.

We walk to show solidarity. We walk because today’s steps become tomorrow’s strength.

One of this year’s priorities is empowering young people to become advocates for lifelong health while helping break the generational stigma surrounding conversations about mental health and wellness. Organizers hope the Walk inspires families to have meaningful conversations about physical, emotional, and social well-being, while encouraging youth to become leaders in building healthier communities for generations to come.

The 2026 Walk also comes during an important election year, reminding participants that community engagement begins long before Election Day. By walking together, participants demonstrate that caring for one another, listening to diverse voices, and investing in stronger communities are all part of building a healthier democracy.

The Walk is designed to be welcoming and accessible for everyone. Participants will enjoy a well-marked, mostly flat course suitable for beginners, families with young children, kūpuna, and individuals with reduced mobility. Along the route, walkers will encounter inspirational signs, educational displays, community resources, and interactive activities highlighting health, wellness, culture, and civic engagement.

“This event continues to grow because people recognize that health is connected to every part of our lives,” said Dr. Arcelita Imasa, Event Chair. “Whether someone joins us to improve their health, support workers and immigrant communities, advocate for mental wellness, empower our youth, or simply spend meaningful time with family and friends, every participant becomes part of something bigger. Together, we’re taking today’s steps toward a stronger tomorrow.”

Organizers expect record participation this year and invite individuals, families, schools, businesses, nonprofit organizations, unions, and community groups to register early and form walking teams.

Financial and in-kind sponsors are also invited to support the event through sponsorship opportunities that help expand programming, educational activities, youth engagement, community outreach, hydration stations, activity booths, music, and participant giveaways.

Registration is now open at bit.ly/walkforhealth. Organizations interested in sponsoring or partnering with the event may contact walkforhealth2026@gmail.com.
